Who We Are / Purpose

Specific and Primary Purposes of the FSO

  • Provide family support to families who have children with special emotional and behavioral needs.
  • Develop training for both families and children with special needs and community members who are professional or nonprofessional who may come into contact with these children.
  • Dissemination of information to both families of children with special needs, and professional and nonprofessional members of the community who come into contact with these families.
  • Develop a good working partnership with the local CMO (Care Management Organization), other community agencies and system partners, to enhance the services provided to those Children and families with special needs.
  • Ongoing local system education through presentations and forums that impart role of FSO and communicate family friendly, parent/professional partnership messages to providers, Division of Child Protection and Permanency  (DCP&P), Division of Child Behavioral Health Services (DCBHS), Juvenile Justice System (JJ), Schools, and Child Advocacy Organizations


FSO/CMO Strategic Partnership

Relationship Building activities to include ongoing meetings and collaborative efforts between CMO and FSO staff.

Community Development

Creating family movement at the local level through an array of services designed to bring families together for support and information sharing, this includes information/ referral Warm line, peer support groups, family education forums, advocacy efforts and recruitment of volunteers.

Direct Peer to Peer Support

Peer Support Partners to directly assist CMO enrolled families through provision of emotional support, community resource linkage, guidance in helping family to articulate needs within child/family team process and to coach and advise Care Managers in understanding and meeting the unique needs and concerns of the family.

Education/Advocacy

Ongoing local system education through presentations and forums that impart role of FSO and communicate family friendly, parent/professional partnership messages to providers, DCP&P,  MH, JJ, Schools, and Child Advocacy Organizations.
